GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ANDY VALLEY TEAM GYMNASTICS
Competition Schedule
The team competition schedule varies from year to year. Generally, the season begins in January and runs through April. Andy Valley typically hosts one boys’ team meet and one girls’ team meet. Other meets are held throughout Maine and New England. Some may require an overnight stay but most are within reasonable driving distance.
Our meet schedule is posted on the bulletin board just outside the main gym and on the AVGPA board upstairs. These schedules are tentative and may be updated as needed. Different levels compete on different days and at different times. This information will be available and posted, along with driving directions, 1-2 weeks prior to each meet.
Please note: Gymnastics is a winter sport and meets may be disrupted due to weather conditions! Coach Rod will do his best to inform all those involved if a meet has been changed or cancelled due to inclement weather.
Meet Information
- Please try to arrive at meets about 15 minutes prior to the scheduled warm up time.
- Plan to bring cash to all meets. Gyms charge an entrance fee for spectators (usually $5-8 cash, per person) at the door and offer leotard & t-shirt sales, concessions, raffles and “gym-grams” (messages to the gymnasts, usually delivered with treats, while the gymnasts are warming up or are between events) to raise funds for their own parent associations.
- Cheering for our gymnasts is welcomed, but please do not be excessive.
- Long hair must be pulled back or tied up.
- USA gymnastics does not allow nail polish.
- One set of stud earrings is allowed. All other jewelry is prohibited.
- All undergarments/sports bras must be covered or blend in with the leotard.
Team Expenses
Aside from monthly fees paid to Andy Valley Gymnastics for gymnastics instruction, families will incur other expenses over the course of the meet season. The amount of these expenses will vary from year to year, so the numbers included here are approximate.
Clinics: Andy Valley gymnasts have the opportunity to participate in one clinic each fall. Participation is optional. $25-60
USA Gymnastics membership: All team gymnasts must be members of USAG in order to compete. $59 (for 2015-2016)
Competition Leotard: Leo cost varies from year to year and may be as little as $36 and as much as $150.
Warm-ups: Monogrammed jacket and pants for wear during meets $80-150
Monogrammed Team Bag (optional): $25+
Team/Individual Photos: It is not mandatory to purchase photos, but they are taken each season and are available for purchase. Cost varies depending on prints ordered.
Choreography Fee: Girls competing in Levels 6 and above and in Xcel levels may incur additional costs for floor routine choreography. $50-150
Meet fees: Teams must pay to participate in meets; meet fees vary and must be paid far in advance of competition. To simplify payment, Coach Rod estimates the total cost of all meet fees for the season and bills parents in 3 or 4 monthly installments. Amounts vary by season and by level. $450-700 per year
Additionally, some meets require travel, potentially involving an overnight stay.
