MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

In exchange for receiving the benefits of membership, and to encourage accountability and involvement, each member family agrees to volunteer ten hours per season, per gymnast. The volunteer “season” runs from August of one year through July of the following year. All members of a gymnast’s family can contribute to the ten required volunteer hours. Alternatively, member families can make a $100.00 contribution to AVGPA in lieu of performing volunteer hours. The families of new team members (those joining the team after August) are only asked to volunteer five hours during their first season or make a $50.00 contribution to AVGPA. Volunteer hours are reported to and tracked by the board Treasurer.

Opportunities to gain volunteer hours are discussed at the AVGPA monthly meetings and are posted on the AVGPA bulletin board on the second floor. Two of the main avenues for accruing volunteer hours are:

The Great Falls Balloon Festival
Each August, the AVGPA sells fried dough and fried Oreos at the Balloon Festival. Parents/guardians and gymnasts over age 12 are eligible to help in the booth. They typically assist with sales, rolling dough, frying, set-up and clean-up.

Andy Valley Home Meets
Andy Valley hosts one girls’ team meet and one boys’ team meet each season. These meets provide many opportunities to volunteer, including collecting entrance fees at the door, working concessions, scoring, acting as runners between judges and the scoring table, setting the gym before the meets and re-setting the gym afterward. Generally, boys’ team parents volunteer at the girls’ meet and vice versa, so that everyone is able to see their own gymnast compete.

In addition, members receive a ½ hour credit for each AVGPA meeting attended. Some members have gained volunteer hours by creating promotional materials, cleaning or painting the gym, managing our Facebook page and performing other helpful duties. If you have an idea for assisting the AVGPA and would like your time to count toward the required five or ten hours, please speak to one of the board members.
